Especially once betrayed

She watches the clouds darken overhead,
The underworld is angry, furious,
His tears of frustration are scattering to the winds,
So she peers through the onslaught, absolutely curious.
***
She watches as the sinner himself paces before his throne,
Muttering away under his breath with a hiss,
“This was to be my trap, her downfall,”
I hear him finish, “How did they miss?”
***
Rounding the bend behind her, the clopping of hoofs,
So she slinks into a nightmare to hide,
Surfing a volcano-sludge river of hatred,
She’s redirected back to the outside.
***
Steam rising from the hoofs disappearing into the night,
Shadows distorting to follow in their wake,
Seeing she’s safe, she sneaks back to the main chamber,
Where he’s stamping his hoofs and hissing like a snake.
***
Sunshine is poisonous within his lair,
Shadows melt into a tortured rage,
She has the power, just a click of her fingers,
And his demons would be locked in a golden cage.
***
He twirls as she lets out a gale force breath,
And laughs at the snarl he wears on his face,
“Hello dear husband, are you a little upset?
Useless,” she spits at him, in disgrace.
***
“You had one job, you imbecile,
But you sent your little minions to kill me,”
She hurls at this trembling husband of hers,
“But here I am; young, beautiful and carefree.”
***
With that she flounces off in her stiletto boots,
Laughing wildly as she waltzes past him,
While the sinner falls to his knees in fear,
She could single-handedly kill him, on a sheer whim.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
