The Quiet

Some quiets are just different

In the silence, in the stillness,

There's a quiet.

Not of peace, not of calm,

Just a quiet.

At first, there's nothing wrong,

It's just a quiet.

So, you shove it down and carry on.

But there's a quiet.

And somehow, inexplicably, it grows,

That quiet.

Suddenly, it's all you can hear,

That quiet.

It sits, it settles in your mind,

The quiet.

It permeates the air, becoming a roar,

That quiet.

Soon it's impossibly loud,

That quiet.

It becomes all you can hear,

The quiet.

You make noise, but it remains,

That quiet.

You occupy your mind, but it lurks,

That quiet.

It won't leave,

That quiet.

If only you weren't so

Quite alone
