The Quiet After The Storm
Destruction everywhere, and floods

The Quiet After The Storm
The morning came, the winds had gone,
The world was quiet, the birds began their song,
No more howling throughout the night,
Just peaceful skies and the morning light.
The dreadful storm had passed us by,
Leaving broken branches beneath the sky,
The dustbins lay scattered along the street,
With leaves and debris beneath our feet.
The trees stood battered, some had fallen down,
The storm had left its mark upon our town,
The flowers were ruined, the fences were torn,
And gardens looked sad in the light of the morn.
But oh, what a relief to hear no sound,
No rattling windows or bins rolling around,
No frightened hearts wondering what came next,
No more people feeling worried and vexed.
I’d hardly slept throughout the night,
Every gust had given me such a fright,
But now I could rest and close my eyes,
Without another stormy surprise.
The rain had stopped, the clouds moved away,
And a little sunshine brightened the day,
The birds came back to the garden once more,
As the gentle breeze brushed against my door.
The neighbours came out to see what was there,
With broken pots and branches everywhere,
Some shook their heads at the terrible sight,
And spoke of the winds that had frightened them last night.
We picked up the pieces, we swept up the leaves,
We gathered the branches beneath the trees,
For whatever destruction the storm had made,
Together we’d mend what the winds had betrayed.
The streets grew quiet, the skies turned blue,
And slowly the world felt peaceful and new,
The fear of the night began to fade,
As sunlight shone through the trees that stayed.
For storms may come and storms may go,
And bring such destruction wherever they blow,
But nothing feels sweeter when morning is born,
Than the wonderful quiet after the storm.
