The Price of Choosing Self

Costly, yet desirable

I have been vilified
for many reasons.

For doing something creative—

“It is a waste of time.
It does not bring money.”

For exercising my interests—

“No biology, but mathematics.
Choose a safer career.”

I was misbehaved
by an evil relative—

“No. You must remain silent
for the honor of the family.”

I chose a man
who would not control me—

“No! You must marry
the person we choose.

If not, we will estrange you
or keep our relationship
to the bare minimum.”

I said—

“I will quit this job.
It is not fulfilling.

I would rather earn less
and live frugally,
enjoying my freedom.”

They refused
to see my reasons.

So, I stopped leaning
on society.

I preferred being alone—

a pariah, black sheep perhaps,
but free
and at peace with myself.

Note: I hope, may of you will relate to it.
