the goosebumps hint

of pending doom

like fingerprints

inside a tomb

the subtle signs

that spirits make

a whispered sigh

a restless quake

the sense that something lingers near

so quietly

you can barely hear

as anxiety

murmurs in your ear

a quiet plea

igniting fear

inviting angst, unease and dread

the smell is near

of something dead

inside your soul

inside your head

the skin unrolled

the spider webbed

a prisoner of those things unseen

untouched by light

fueled gasoline

igniting

somewhere at your back

where eyes can't see

it will attack

what you believe

twisting your thoughts

the light and words

your screams are caught

stopped by your nerves

frozen in fear

held with delight

held in mid air

into the night

where no one can hear

you cry for help

a single tear

or misheard yelp

until the madness eats you whole

a loser of the mind games

you've traded all your self control

as another soul it claims

but was it ever really there ?

were you ever steps from danger ?

or were you swallowed in your despair

within fears unlocked chambers

I suppose that you won't know for sure, unless you turn around

or maybe that is its true allure

the willingest victim will be found

second guessing what's behind the door
