The Poison Apple

A poem

Welcome to the witch's woods;

Will you follow me?

Hold my hand along the path as we search for the Manchineel Tree.

Let’s wander off and gaze about;

at all the plants and herbs that can be found.

Different poisons and potions can be used;

To concoct a brew that can bring bad news.

Farther down the twisting path, awaits a deadly secret.

Before I take you there, you must swear that you shall keep it.

Deep in the woods does this enchanted tree grow;

secluded and untouched.

The witch who lives here says to be wary, for the danger is far too much.

Don't be deceived by the fruit it grows;

Resembling an apple, but you wouldn't know.

That the fruit it bears is called the apple of death;

and just one taste can take a man's last breath.

The sap that flows amongst the wood is extremely poisonous too;

For if you touch the tree, the virulent sap will adhere to you.

Burning and blistering you can't escape;

And an inconspicuous death shall be your fate.
