I See You

I see you

Little mermaid

In a bathtub short on salts

I see the lights you've strung about

You tried to make the best

But the ones who captured you

Prefer your light put out

I see you over there

So far away from me

I know you know I really tried

But I could never make you see

I remember when I met you

At the bottom of a sea

It was cold and dark down there

It was not a bit like me

I was made of fire and flight

A phoenix you could say

You said I was your only friend

You begged me then

To stay

I thought if I swam with you

I could make the waters warm

But all the warmth I offered you

Was dampened by a storm

Your captors put those chains on you

Even fire could not melt

The spell they cast was far too strong

My warmth was never felt

And over time you became like them

Cold and dark and sad

They cursed you, little mermaid

But a real, true friend you had

You see...

I see you little mermaid

I still throw fire in your pond

I still hope I can warm you

Even though I don't respond
