The Pessimistic Houdini

The poetry of being misunderstood

By Dotty FairweatherPublished 4 months ago • 1 min read

Pictures in my ears and noises in my eyes. I am cross wired.

The keeper of other people's secrets except my own. I cannot lie.

Solitude in a room full of mannequins. Leave me alone... please come back.

I see the world through my eyes.

A wardrobe full of masks, one for every occasion. A mismatch of clothes none for any occasion.

I have no power over what I feel. You have all the power.

I dress how I want to dress.

The race of existence. The luxury of choosing to be the hare.

I am the tortoise. Going round in circles, yet so still. Stuck in the frustrating physics of nowhere-ness.

Taking something away from me, stealing a little of my personality. Eventually getting to the finish line with no medal for a prize.

I take things at my own pace.

Sitting behind a closed door that takes me to myself, safe and alone. I’ve taken the pessimists route to being Houdini.
