The Perfect End

Today My Spumoni Tastes A Little Salty

Today my spumoni tastes a little salty

At first it was sweet

The creamy chocolate married divinely

With the fruity cherry

Punctuated perfectly with the swirl

Of nutty pistachio

Comfortably wrapping around my taste buds

Like a hug from an old friend

Chasing down long forgotten memories

Of eating here with Dad

Stuffed with sourdough and creamy pesto dressing

Mizithra and Lasagna

But always saving just enough room for

The perfect end

But today, two bites in, everything changed

The bowl became blurry

Overlaid with bitter-sweet visions

Of years gone past

And my ice cream started to taste

Just a little salty
