The Perfect Death

(no subtitle)

By Mary KingPublished 4 years ago • 1 min read

I was lucky enough to see it all end.

To watch the beauty of death,

of this, my beloved planet.

I open the door, go down the steps

and let my bare feet touch the exposed earth.

Curling my toes into the warm grass,

I take out a black market cigarette from my pocket, light it, and inhale deep.

It’s been too long, friend.

I take a sip of red from the bottle,

enjoying it, in all its notes and mercy.

I walk several feet forward,

find the perfect spot and lie down.

Bottle at my side and my cigarette hand resting on my chest,

I watch in frightful awe as the sky falls on me.
