The People Who Leave

(and the ones who stay)

By MD RUMAN HOSSAINPublished about a year ago • 1 min read
Alone

Some people will love you

like a storm loves the sea—

wild, loud, crashing

and temporary.

Some will hold your hand

until it's inconvenient

until your cracks show

until you ask for too much

(which was never too much, by the way).

And some?

Some will walk away

without a proper goodbye

without returning your last text

without looking back.

It will hurt.

Like hell.

But listen.

There are people

who stay.

The ones who hold your shaking hands

when the world is crumbling.

The ones who see your mess

and still choose you.

The ones who don’t need you to be

anything but

you.

They exist.

They are quiet,

soft,

rare.

Look for them.

Fight for them.

Be them.

And when the ones who leave

try to haunt you in the dark,

whisper back:

“I survived you.”
