The Pain of Cancer
A poem about a disease that causes pain like no other - dedicated to all those who suffer from cancer
Cancer,
the thief of life,
crawls upwards,
causing strife
like no other disease
it pulls us down
deeper and deeper
a hell-grounded sign.
It takes hold
with a vicious grip,
leaving behind
chronic ailments,
energy dipping
until we
need a kip.
The agony,
it sears the soul,
a fire that burns
beyond control
leaving us dense
a tolerance
not to be endured.
A constant ache
that won't subside,
A never-ending,
torturous ride.
It spreads like wildfire
in the night,
consuming all
with an endless might.
It ravages the body,
the mind,
the heart,
Tearing and ripping us apart.
The pain of cancer,
it's hard to bear,
A constant reminder
of what's not fair.
It steals away
the joys of life,
replacing them
with endless strife.
Yet, in the midst
of the agony and fear,
there's a glimmer of hope
that's ever so near.
The strength to fight,
the will to survive,
a beacon of light
in the darkest of skies.
So let us stand
together hand in hand,
and fight this battle,
take a strand.
For though the pain
may linger on,
we will endure,
we will be strong.
But most of all
we will worry
when the end
is near.
Feeling crippled
to the core
debilitated, rippled
through life's door.
What more can we do
to stay alive
to live a while
to feel our strength?
The answer is
to be positive
to be healthy
and keep smiling
even though
we don't feel like it.
