I know you exist.

He told me you did.

He told me plenty of things about you;

They were few, all and nothing.

He said he was sick

Of dealing with tricks

From witches like us,

In those eyes of his

Of course, in my case

He just didn’t like

How I found day to day

The truth of his lies

But he was a charmer

His spells, they seduced

My brief stints in power

Had none on his ruse

For a while, I thought I knew

Where he got his comparison

Where me, he lashed out and used.

It was common knowledge in his circles

And in the places I wandered

He once had a sworn brother of sorts

Well, sister, he thought at the time

But anyways;

They were friends.

Best friends, in fact.

It was quite strange, looking back,

Considering how different they were in personality and type.

One into authors and poets of old:

The other, more modern, a rebel untold.

Still, they promised they’d always stick together.

Obviously, their connection got ruthlessly severed.

And your ex-friend never seemed to fully recover

For a while from all of those broken tethers.

I never knew the other guy.

But when I looked at his older pictures;

When I gleaned his free spirit mixed with inner tension

I figured your guy had that guy remembered

Painfully, whenever he talked to me

And that’s why things went south, down the creek

But then those two made up with each other

Sure, they never regained the ties they once had

The platonic vows to stick by each other’s side

However, they were cordial.

They were cordial, and friendly,

And pretty helpful to each other.

They’re basically just like average co-workers now.

Of course, your guy never bothered to set things right with me.

So, as I went through his history

I started to realize

You had to be out there, somewhere.

None of his other public enemies

Could match up with me.

They were either too stark

Incomprehensible, or bleak.

So with the other guy

Out of the way

It has to be you

In this case.

And I say I’ve moved on

And I mostly have

But sometimes I have

Visions all cast

And I see a woman

Raven haired, wood eyed,

She speaks kinds of tones

Ones like mine

And I wonder if maybe

She could be you

But then, I go on

For I made a truce.
