The Oppressor

A poem dedicated to the real monster among men.

There he stood, looking tall and mighty,

Everything about him screamed "perfect",

From his shoes' exquisite polish,

To the desirable wealth that his tie would reflect,

There was no doubt ; he was "The Man",

The one with money, prestige and power,

The one who ran the stage, one could say!

But the truth, my friend, is much more sour...

In a land of starvation and borderline war,

He profits from his people's weakness,

He plays twisted games with their tired hearts,

Oh, how sad it is that they don't realize ; he is the reason of their bleakness!

"The Man" promised a table of food,

While finishing the caviar, while they await their next meal.

He swore to provide secure, clean water,

Yet let them die of its contamination and hope that was never real.

His wife worse the shiniest gold,

While other women scarped by to earn some bread.

She cursed at the common woman's plight,

While her impoverished sister plans around conflicts ahead.

His children study in the best universities abroad,

While the youngsters here can't afford the local school.

His kids are planning their next luxury outing,

While the commoners plan their next work shifts, their realities so cruel.

Everyday, another innocent dies at hospital doors.

Everyday, there is someone's blood on his hands.

In the meantime, a corrupt thug gets paid heaps of stolen money,

For being his faithful dog, obeying his atrocious commands.

He sends his pawn after those who demand a better life,

Because the people's poverty is what fuels his greed.

"It doesn't matter, as long as I have my money", he thinks,

As a nation bleeds to death, thanks to his deed.

My people, I write these words for you,

This demon isn't a hero, or the best of us,

He killed more of us than our enemies,

A true oppressor and lowly wuss.

He is the cause behind your son's death and your daughter's enslavement,

He is why our anguished screams are all we hear.

Do not fall for his cheap manipulation and tricks,

Because the oppressor, as low as he is, is the greatest puppeteer.
