The One Thing That Withstands

a mother's love

*My children that I didn't know at the time I wrote this poem to my mother in 1998*

Friendship; a true thing in life in which you can depend. An open heart, understanding look, and a helping hand it will extend.

Through the whirling wind and raging thunder, And when the sun comes out we rejoice and laugh at the blunder.

It withstands the greatest storms with strength and power, Yet it's as fragile as a sun-dried flower.

Tender thoughts of care exuberate out and enthrall its dwellers. Yet it can be as lonely and clammy as an empty, old cellar.

Friendship, bound by love, can unlock and open any door. And I am glad that our friendship will last forever more.

There has been times when I thought I could do it on my own. Lord, If I had only known.

You see friends are special and no one should be alone. But if you are in need of love, just close your eyes and remember who's home.

She says her prayers to bring her baby home tonight. Not knowing, just hoping that everything is alright.

Your true friend is your Mom, though everyone doesn't agree on that. Well, do you have a friend that would clean dookie off your crack?

Mom, you're my savior, my unfading guiding light. You extracted me from self-hatred and have given me sight.

Your strength has pushed thru grueling obstacles and an abundance of strife. Misfortune and potholes were there to make you weak, but you held onto your underestimated life.

You achieve sometimes the impossible, without a word to say. I try and retain your wisdom because it makes for a beautiful day. Is relentlessness your key to ridding the sky of gray?

Though mere words cannot erase the painful memories I have sketched inside. I hope that with love, understanding, patience, time and dedication the agony I've caused will whither and die.

I am an honest person, with clean morals and values. I'm consistently considerate; Mom, I must have got that from you.

"Like mother Like daughter", isn't that what they say? I love you Mom, I just hope to "fill your shoes" some day.

And when that magical moment comes when I too am a mother, I just pray my child will feel exactly what I've discovered......

My Cup Runneth Over, but it can never be too full.
