The One Behind the Mask

The Entertainer

By Asa GeePublished 4 years ago • 1 min read

I sit in silent preparation.

In the process of creation

Trying to become someone who is loved.

I search deep inside me

looking for his qualities.

I think about his words, his mood, his walk

I look in the mirror and I see him

I wear his clothes and don his face.

Then comes the cue to stand in the dark.

The clock ticks away,

my time will soon end.

The curtain rises, the lights flood the land

I fade behind the veil

as he glides onto the stage.

I can see through his eyes

As he struts into the light.

But I remain silent and invisible.

No one knows that I exist.

Listening to his speech

Staring through the cavities

Peering at the assembly

Listening to their glee

Restraining my jealousy

Confined to a façade

The show ends,

Time to go home

Time for...

Another character

Another face

A different stage

Surrounded by people

Trapped by a guise

Forever alone

Who cares for the ones

Behind the mask?
