The Old Tree
Standing proud, full of birds singing loud

The Old Tree
There stood an old tree in the middle of town,
With branches that reached and roots deep down,
Children would climb it and play underneath,
While lovers carved names in the old weathered tree.
The years passed by and the children grew tall,
The lovers moved on and forgot it all,
But still that old tree stood proud and alone,
Watching the people who had once called it home.
One winter a storm came roaring through,
It snapped a great branch clean in two,
The people all thought the old tree would die,
But spring came again with blue in the sky.
New little leaves began showing once more,
Just like the tree had done years before,
And everyone passing began to see,
That life can return to what seems to be gone.
A woman stood there with tears in her eyes,
Remembering someone beneath those skies,
She touched the old trunk and whispered his name,
Then smiled when she realised the tree was the same.
Some things may change and some people may go,
But memories live where the old roots still grow,
And sometimes we need something steady and true,
To remind us that life can begin again too.
