The Ocean's Verdict

Sunday poem

By Paul StewartPublished 5 months ago Updated 5 months ago 1 min read
The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Katsushika Hokusai - Metropolitan Museum of Art: entry 45434

Glib is how you spell confidence

Persistence with substance

Rushing towards never nothing

Something bigger and bolder

Pursuit without prejudice

Where is the drama?

Did it die with the rising sun?

I swear I saw the end of the mighty

as the littlest took uneasy steps—

forward, with forthrightness.

I went from staring to examining,

then discovery—then judgement.

Providence and Prometheus—

damned, we are such fellows.

As tides require—demand—

respect, as they steal our breath

and breach the land:

a warning in their displays

of power—impartial, absolute.
