A Poem

Eyes that could mirror the moon

with hair choreographed

by the passing breeze -

an essence of bloom

That I nor any other

could bare to let go

Every step in the sand

small imprints of playful strides

leaving behind another moment

that would never be as grand

as life continues to wilt the innocence

What it is in life that we even chase?

- foreverness, wealth, youth, beauty

heartache, pain?

In the wake of something beyond

a race quickening to its bounds

step after step the eyes fixed

a flash that may have dawned

both heart and ache entwine

For a beat of the heart

like when I used to dream

standing alone

in the ocean shallows

I was there from the start

For now, an ever present grief

I swim beyond the threshold

past where the sand is soft

floating in the luminous reef

I still can’t remember her name.
