The Nuns
The nuns walk past,
chanting softly,
or maybe complaining,
I cannot tell,
one trips, giggles,
the others hide smiles,
do nuns get tired of being nuns?
I would, gods brides.
they move like slow rivers,
silent, unstoppable,
I bow, they nod,
we understand something,
a silent joke,
a tiny rebellion,
bread baking, incense, old wood,
maybe heaven is like this,
slow parade of humans,
pretending to be serious,
hiding humor like treasure,
the world waits outside,
frantic, loud, desperate,
they float,
ridiculous and graceful,
perfect balance, of holiness.
