The Nine Muses of Inspiration
Not of May, per se. Mike's May prompt.

Hail to Thee, great Muses of art and history!
As storytellers have for thousands of years,
I seek Thy aid.
Be Ye one or three or nine,
Grant me inspiration, that I may convey Thy glory.
In the Merry Month of May...
I searched high and low for the nine goddesses of inspiration, daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne
Those lovely muses who preside over the arts, literature, and sciences.
I needed to ask their blessing upon my soul...and upon a world that had lost its way
Alas, I could only find eight.......which I counted as a blessing, for the world sorely needed a boost to it's waning confidence.
Fair Urania, her sisters said – She of Astronomy; armed with a globe and compass. Was off globetrotting...trying her best to save humanity if she could.

Clio – Records History; symbolized in her scrolls and books.
Erato – With Her Love of poetry, tries to spread happiness and joy, offering angelic music of the the lyre, while adorning all with roses.
Euterpe – Plays Music and sings lyric poetry, cradling a double-pipe...the (aulos).
Melpomene – Oh, she sees and laments all of the world's Tragedy; often hiding her face behind a tragic mask.

Polyhymnia – Croons Sacred songs and hymns; always seen sitting in a thoughtful pose.
Terpsichore – She Dances and sings choral songs; playing upon a lyre.
Thalia – Comedy is her forte, as she puzzles with pastoral poetry; peeking out from a comic mask.
