The Night She Hugged the Moon

And it hugged her back

The street that led her

To the moon

Was long and two lanes wide

Guided by the glow above

She walked until she cried

~

The often-busy road

Was empty on that night

Footsteps slow and steady

Dazzled by moonlight

~

She arrived at a dead end

The full moon nestled above trees

Pouring light into the dark

Illuminating

What was difficult to see

~

Basking in its shine

She raised her arms out wide

As if to give a hug

Joining ground and sky

~

Then to her surprise

The moon took her in

It wrapped its light

Around her soul

Pulling answers from within

~

Her spirit cracked wide open

Memories from yesterday

Entwined with childhood

What wasn’t making sense before

Now was understood

~

A steady rain fell from her eyes

Leaving glittering streams upon her cheeks

Beauty brought forth from the moon

Years had to be released

~

Shining light into her darkness

Like the moon in the sky

She gave thanks for what unfolded

As her tears ran dry

~

Wearing wisdom like a blanket

Giving warmth throughout the night

She’ll never forget the pull of the moon

And how it hugged her soul that night

Pieces of Me ~ Poems by Heidi

In 2022, I came across a bin of my journals spanning many years. It was then that I realized I haven’t told people I enjoy writing or shared my work publicly. I decided to start.
