The Night It Happened

The most fear I ever felt

The Night It Happened

I remember the moment like it never ended,

The sharpness of fear before I could react,

His hand too quick, his eyes already gone,

Leaving me with the weight of what he lacked.

I felt the blade before I understood it,

A sudden heat tearing through my skin,

Warm blood slipping quietly down my arm,

So fast I could not hold it in.

My sleeve grew heavy with something too real,

Each drop marking a truth I could not deny,

He ran before I could find my voice,

Taking more than I could name at the time.

It was not just the purse clutched in his hand,

Not just the money I would never see,

It was the piece of safety I thought I carried,

The part of the world that still trusted in me.

I stood there shaking in the fading light,

Trying to gather what was left behind,

Learning how quickly a moment can break you,

And leave something permanent in your mind.

I walked away with more than a scar,

Something deeper I cannot undo,

A quiet understanding of how fragile we are,

And how little it takes to come untrue.
