I'm ashamed to say it, but life's lost it's zest

though I keep those thoughts hidden, kept close to my chest

So that no one around me would ever guess

that I wouldn't mind if it were over

I smile on the surface to cover the ache

living in shadows, completely opaque

Hiding the sorrow for everyone's sake

keeping the statue quo, kosher

Joy in what was, hasn't touched me for years

I sit in my car till I can cover the tears

That flow without warning, leaving me scared

that these moments will never be over
