If you have fewer and fewer friends, and you have no desire to hold on,

there's nothing wrong with you. You've simply chosen to be yourself.

You're spending your time and energy improving yourself,

instead of trying to please others or deliberately cultivating relationships.

Capable people are often lonely,

because they know how to dedicate time to themselves—to cultivate their own light, instead of basking in the glow of others.

The older you get, the fewer friends you have.

This is simply life naturally filtering out those who aren't right for you.

The reasons for separation might be vastly different circumstances,

but it's also possible that there was never any genuine connection to begin with.

Friendships formed in youth might have been brought together by school or work; those fleeting encounters were simply because there was common ground,

not necessarily deep connections.

Only when time and space no longer allow us to meet,

yet we can still stay in touch,

are those who remain truly genuine.

Friendship is always truly revealed in moments of solitude.
