The Museum of Forgotten People

No one seemed to care who was left in there

The Museum of Forgotten People

I wandered through a museum,
Where forgotten people stay,
Their faces hung in picture frames,
Their memories locked away.

I heard a voice behind the glass,
It whispered out my name,
I turned to see a familiar face,
But nothing looked the same.

The people I’d forgotten
Were standing in a queue,
They pointed bony fingers,
And shouted, “We remember you!”

An old man in the corner
Was sitting in a chair,
He said, “You left me years ago,
But I’ve been waiting here.”

A woman in a wedding dress
Was crying on the floor,
She said, “You promised me forever,
Then walked straight out the door.”

I tried to leave the museum,
But the doors were locked up tight,
And every face I’d ever known
Came crawling through the night.

Then suddenly I noticed
A picture on the wall,
It showed my face behind the glass,
The strangest thing of all.

And underneath, a message read,
In letters carved in stone,
“You spent your life forgetting us,
Now you’ll be forgotten alone.”

And one last picture on the wall
I noticed as I headed out,
Was a picture of a little child,
He didn’t smile or shout.

There was a note there in his hand,
I took it to read inside,
And what I read upon that note
Truly made me cry.

“Daddy, why did you make me,
If you didn’t want me then?
Daddy, why did you forsake me,
And never think of me again?
