The Mirror That Refused to Reflect

What is this power it holds over us all?

The Mirror That Refused to Reflect

The mirror hung,

cold on the wall.

It did not answer,

it only waited.

I stepped closer,

heart beating fast.

My face did not move,

my eyes did not shine.

Shadows flickered behind me,

the glass stayed empty.

Every memory leaned in,

breathing heavy and silent.

I called my name,

soft, trembling, afraid.

The mirror stayed still,

mocking me with emptiness.

Hands pressed to glass,

cold as old stone.

I searched for truth,

but it hid itself well.

Whispers rose from corners,

voices I had forgotten.

The mirror drank them,

leaving only hunger behind.

I saw fear in the air,

felt longing in the walls.

The mirror knew more,

than any face could tell.

I turned away,

its silence chasing me.

The reflection I sought,

had vanished into the dark.
