The Me I Never Got to Be
Elegy for my aspirations

Music plays in the background
This title sprang from the sound
I sat, dumb
blank screen possessing me
for nearly half an hour
๐๐ชถ
Questions swirl
Paralyzed by the truth
Revelations clutch my heart
Pumping by hand
Forever unable to restart
๐๐ชถ
Beginning from scratch
Rebuilding from ground zero
That makes the answer obvious
I am now and have always been
๐๐ชถ
a writer
๐๐ชถ
What I didnโt know about me
Will one day fill a library
Haunted by the ghosts of
Days plucked from obscurity
๐๐ชถ
I stood my whole life
A tree in an empty forest
Unobserved
Screaming in vain
Vocal cords torn
Battered by uncontrolled
Sobs of annihilation
๐๐ชถ
Debilitated
By the frantic silence belted out
The constant barrage of
Words unrecorded
Unacknowledged
An entire lifetime
Of unadorned pages
Await the song I
Could never sing
๐๐ชถ
Absconding from mortal sight
I trample through an
Overgrown meadow of
Unfelt desires
Memories left mired
Collapsed and torched
The ash of pages
Carried away on moist
Winter breezes
๐๐ชถ
Apprehension grows
From the core of my being
Put on the spot
Expected to start an
Enduring myth en medias res
Now I record every detail
In flowing script
Titled: In Memoriam
My self-designed obituary
My last task
Dress up violent mundanity
In the silken wisps of
Fragile humanity
