The Masks They Wear
To hide the faces of a snake

The Masks They Wear
Beneath the pale, unyielding light,
They twist their tongues and hide their sight.
With smiles that sharpen, edges cold,
They offer hands, but hearts are sold.
Their words are threads of venom spun,
Each promise made is but undone.
They walk with shadows by their side,
With every truth, they try to hide.
No whispers rise to touch their skin,
For lies are built and secrets win.
They feed on fears, on doubt, on pain,
And leave behind a bitter stain.
In crowded rooms, they stand alone,
Their kingdom made of broken stone.
With empty eyes, they seek to reign,
But all they touch is born of shame.
Yet in the dark, they too may find
The weight of deeds they left behind.
For wickedness does not outlast
The echoes of a fractured past.
