THE MAN WHO WOKE UP DEAD
A man woke up one morning,
And found that he was dead,
He wasn’t very worried,
So climbed straight out of bed.
He wandered to the kitchen,
And made his usual brew,
His wife came in and told him,
You’re looking rather blue.
He checked himself all over,
And gave his head a shake,
I can’t be dead this morning,
I’ve got the lawn to rake.
He went outside quite slowly,
And waved across the wall,
His neighbour looked straight through him,
And didn’t wave at all.
He tried to catch the bus then,
But people took his seat,
A lady walked straight through him,
While staring at her feet.
He wandered home quite puzzled,
And sat beside his wife,
She said you silly beggar,
You’re very much alive.
You drank too much last evening,
Then fell asleep downstairs,
You’ve still got blue face paint on,
And cobwebs in your hair.
He stared into the mirror,
Then laughed till he went red,
I’d better stop that drinking,
I thought that I was dead.
