The man who lived in a castle

The man who lived in a castle,
In the woods hidden by the trees.
One day he wanted a queen,
Alas no woman would bow to his knees.

They all thought him just so insane,
No one wanted to waste their time.
But the man insisted, “Come on with me,
Be my queen. This castle is all mine.”

He wasn’t a king,
He was just a man pretending all along,
Pretending he could marry and bring his bride
Into the castle in the wood.

Then one day the real king stood
And said, “Off with his head!”

“A king like me, him pretending to be,
He Is just a pauper. Anybody can see.
It’s not his castle, it’s not his own,
It doesn’t belong to him.”

For he just broke into it and said,
“This is where I live.”

The only person who knows this
Is the little tiny mouse,
The mouse that lives in the cellar
And has done all his life.

He watched the kings that lived there come and go
And never showed itself.
The mouse that keeps its distance
But creeps about at night,
Because he wouldn’t want this man to claim it.

He showed himself to the real king and said,
“Come sit with me, sir.
I’ll tell you everything.”

“This man broke in one night
To search for what he could find.
When he seen the castle was empty,
He instantly changed his mind.

Now he only wanted was to be A King

He put on all the suits from in the wardrobe
He dressed as royal as he could said the mouse

I just stood under the bed
I watched him through the slits in the wood.

One thing I particularly noticed
Was he just enjoyed the finery.
And at night no servants cooked for him.
He was the main diner cook.

He ate brown toast with nothing on,
Not royal meals for a king.
This man is an imposter, sir.
He made my alarm bells ring.”

The king listened and smiled and said,
Don’t worry, little mouse.
You’re welcome to stay in this castle.
Just call it the Little Mouse House.

The mouse was happy and off he went,
Permission at last to stay.
The king, he got the guardsmen
To take the imposter away.

They took him out at dawn
hanged him from a tree.
All that was just what he deserved

For pretending to be royalty.
