The Man From Jonah Street

I know a man from Jonah Street.
He stands on his head more than his feet.
He reads his newspaper upside down.
Then comments on stories with a frown.

His cat sits watching every day.
Wondering why he behaves that way.
You are reading upside down news.
No wonder you always look confused.

Surely thats news from Australia below.
everything there is upside down you know.
You belong with the people above.
Turn that newspaper around my love.

But the man would never listen at all.
He stood on his head beside the wall.
Sometimes from morning until his bed.
He spent the whole day upon his head.

One day his neighbour looked through the glass.
She stopped and stared as she walked past.
Thats not right she shouted with fright.
Nobody should live upside down all night.

She called for a doctor who called for a nurse.
They looked at the man and thought it was worse.
They came in a van and took him away.
Nobody knows where he is to this day.

His poor old cat moved in next door.
He thought life could not be strange anymore.
The woman said you are welcome with me.
There are no strange things in here you will see.

The cat curled up snug as a bug in a rug.
He gave his new owner a grateful hug.
Then nighttime came and what did he see.
His new owner was as strange as could be.

She never slept in a chair or her bed.
She hung from a cupboard instead.
Both of her legs went over the door.
While her hair nearly touched the kitchen floor.

The cat shot off over three garden walls.
He ran tothe church and straight down the hall.
If they want me now then they can search.
Because I am staying inside this church.

I want to live where normal folk be.
This street is far too crazy for me.
I have tried being normal as anyone can see.
But it never happens for me.
