The Magic Never Stops

We just can't quit paying attention.

Woke up this morning with a thought and an idea that lit up my muse.

Decided to share it with you, because if not you, then who?

This is what I have, so far...

There is magic, true magic, in this world if we choose to see it.

And it’s everywhere, all the time.

We just need to pay attention.

It’s imperative that we do.

We rush around worrying about the most inconsequential things. We argue over matters that will mean absolutely nothing 24 hours from now. We get caught up in little dramas, minor offences, bruised egos, and the endless me, me, me syndrome.

Meanwhile, the extraordinary is happening right in front of us.

And we miss it.

When a baby is born, we stop. We stare. We understand instinctively that we’re witnessing something miraculous.

Yet the miraculous doesn’t end there.

It’s in a flower opening. A bird building a nest. An animal trusting us enough to fall asleep beside us. A tree pushing new leaves toward the sun. Someone we love laughing in the next room.

These things become ordinary only because we’ve seen them before.

Perhaps that’s one of our greatest mistakes.

We take what matters for granted and give enormous importance to things of almost no consequence. And slowly, without noticing, we allow the trivial to become the thief of happiness, balance, and well-being.

Someone very wise once observed that change is the only constant.

It’s more than a clever phrase. Everything alive is changing. Growing. Aging. Becoming something else.

Without change, life stagnates.

Perhaps that’s why paying attention to other forms of life can teach us so much.

The Miracle in a Seed

One doesn’t need to be a botanist to recognise the extraordinary beauty of watching something come alive.

Plant a seed. Then watch.

But really watch.

From something tiny and apparently insignificant, life emerges. Roots search downward into darkness while a stem somehow knows to reach toward the light.

If that isn’t magic, I’m not sure what is.

Across cultures and generations, people have planted trees to commemorate those they’ve loved and lost. We do it for people. We do it for our beloved animals. We place something living into the earth while carrying the memory of another life inside us.

Sometimes a tear falls with it.

Then the tree grows.

Year after year, it reaches higher. Leaves appear. Branches stretch outward. Birds may eventually build nests in it. Shade falls where once there was none.

And something that began with loss becomes life again.

There is a peculiar gratitude in witnessing that transformation. Very few things can produce quite the same feeling.

That alone is magical.

Maybe that’s what life has been trying to tell us all along.

Pay attention.

The miracle isn’t hiding.

We are simply too busy sometimes to notice it.

I’ll leave you with the words of someone who understood this long before I did:

“We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us.”

— Joseph Campbell

That is all I have for now.

All my love,

René
