THE LONGEST NIGHT
It was as if it never wanted to go

THE LONGEST NIGHT
The darkness came so early,
And covered every street,
The wind began to whisper,
Around my tired feet.
I closed my bedroom curtains,
And locked the front door tight,
I knew that I should sleep then,
But something felt not right.
The clock kept slowly ticking,
But time refused to move,
I heard the floorboards creaking,
With nothing there to prove.
I heard the bedroom door then,
Although I’d locked it tight,
Then footsteps crossed the hallway,
And vanished from my sight.
I held my breath in silence,
And listened for a sound,
The footsteps kept on coming,
But no one could be found.
I wished for morning sunlight,
To chase the dark away,
I counted every minute,
Until the break of day.
At last the sun came shining,
And darkness disappeared,
I opened up the curtains,
And felt my heart relieved.
But still I think about that night,
When everything stood still,
Some nights can leave a shadow,
That follows where you will.
