Loneliness

Is the color of honey fermenting in a cool dark cupboard

It happens when apathy moves in and connection departs

It sounds like untethered screams on a phone unhooked

It smells like smoldering smoke of old soul's burning hearts

It tastes like a slice of life with lashings of sacrifice

It looks like an injured bird out of flight totally fucked

Loneliness is a mausoleum for all things nice in paradise

It seeps into the air of caged birds mid-song ruffling feathers

It smirks at the human form in habitats above their station

It laughs so loud the sparrows block incoming vibes by the formation

It appears to all for the eye can see a solitary affair

It takes no victims washed out to sea in a rickety rowing boat

It holds us close until we're all wrapped un in the heat of despair

Loneliness lingers on long after you're gone and finally all can see it.
