The Lone Light
For Caroline, a mother who stands alone for her children
Here I stand guard
Waiting
Watching
Alone
I shine my light
So they can see
I guide them home
Casting my beam across
What lurks below
-
There waits danger
Pitfalls
Sharp Rocks
Dark space
I shine my light
Hope they will heed
My grave warning
But over and over
They turn away
-
Still I watch o'er
Always
Constant
With care
I shine my light
Though they don't watch
They shut me out
They don't want my guidance
I'm just a relic
-
'Til storms rage in
Then they need
Then they seek
Then they plead
Turn to my light
To find their way
Then sun returns
And I am forgotten
Until next time
-
Yet here I am
Tired
Ragged
Broken
Still I shine bright
Always for them
For all they have
In this dark, dreary world
Is my love’s light
