The Lights

A Rambling Poem

Within the darkness, I meet a light

one which dances gaily round my head.

This light I say, this jovial light

It brings joy to the heart

which flutters in my chest.

So where are you leaving to little light?

Why must you go?

Why must you leave me, abandon me, and take your glow?

I weep as I sit here, alone in the dark,

But, hark, as I weep another light enters;

This light is mellow, it seems to float upon the air

But even this light is sweet to me.

I spin round it and shout with ardor,

For now, I have light again. Oh, what splendor!

But this light leaves too, As quickly as it came

Floating gently along in the wind, created by my reckless vanity.

So once more I weep, and in the darkness, I sit,

The lights are no more, my heart starts to weak.

But once more I see, not one, two, but thousands of lights.

They dance and they shimmer, they all look at me.

And then I smile, laugh, and dance,

For I am not alone in the darkness,

But rather embraced in the starry night sky.
