The Light Above the Waves

A Poem About Hope

Roaming without direction,

unbound by lack of choice;

set adrift in the sea of chaos.

Waves threaten to crest over me,

never easing to reveal

the edge of the horizon.

What hope is there

when hope is devoured?

Dragged down like a whale fall,

picked apart till the bones

barely stand.

But what is taken must

eventually be returned,

so here I drift with the current,

limbs bound by my own weight,

one eye on the light above the waves.
