The Life That No One Wanted
No one needed or wanted such a life

The Life That No One Wanted
Born into silence instead of delight
No joyful tears welcomed the child that night
Only long faces and whispers downstairs
Heavy resentment hung thick in the air
She grew like a weed through cracks in the floor
Fed just enough while denied something more
Every small need felt a burden to meet
Love always stopping before it grew deep
Photos were missing from shelves in the hall
As though she existed the least of them all
Even her birthdays arrived without sound
Another long year merely dragged itself round
Children can sense when affection is thin
Feel it like winter pressed under the skin
A life no one wanted still learns how to ache
Still dreams of the warmth other people just take
She watched other mothers adjusting young hair
Simple soft gestures she never knew there
Kindness became something distant and strange
Almost impossible life could still change
Then one old woman smiled passing the street
Called her sweetheart while they happened to meet
Such tiny compassion still shattered the dark
Leaving one trembling impossible spark
Now she stands older with scars neatly dressed
Still carrying hollowness deep in her chest
The life that no one had wanted back then
Still found a reason to keep breathing again
