I was intimidated by your will
Even the grey tree dwindled next to you
You loved the meal and spat upon the bill
Your writing was born clean, without review

You taught me to understand fence sitting
A new tenor in an old vehicle
Never neutral, you made the pose fitting
Ruling barriers that scared most people

You made disobedience into art
Stern schoolmasters soiled themselves when you laughed
In church, after the homily--so smart
You pointed out where the pale priest had gaffed!

You greeted the spring sunshine with your skin
You knew that hiding beauty is a sin
