How can this life be such a mystery?

Navigational pull, a tug in every direction

Have we not learned from our history?

Seeking validation - proof of our victory

Hiding our sins with every confession

How can this life be such a mystery?

Exemplary behavior in utter disarray

Craving attention with every affection

Have we not learned from our history?

Misgivings in disappointed misery

Self-serving 'til the day of reckon'

How can this life be such a mystery?

Guarding our thoughts with artillery

In hinderance of concession

Have we not learned from our history?

Breaking the mold, taking the liberty

Can draw the line, a bitter transgression

How can this life be such a mystery?

Have we not learned from our history?
