Lost Somewhere in the Middle

Last of the first, I am.

Sired by one whose charm

Hopelessly beguiled all

And left vows in tatters.

Supported by one whose

Unrivaled faith and courage

Dug deep and found sustenance

And anchorage in stubborn soil.

Nourished with my peers

In the scaffold for our progeny,

Building the base for the shoots

That would reach for the warmth and light.

Far above me, the cycle endures

Whilst we, the first, maintain the bond

Between our roots and what thrives above,

And I will stay strong

And wonder, here in the median,

If they still know of us, up there,

Until vitality is but a memory

And I no longer feel the sun.
