The Magician’s presence radiated power, and Ava felt a chill run down her spine. “Detective Sinclair,” he said smoothly as she approached. “I’ve been expecting you.”“I need to know about Ella Harrison,” Ava replied, trying to keep her voice steady.

He smirked, the corner of his lips curling. “She was in over her head. Talented, yes, but she made some dangerous connections. We were working on a project together.”

“What kind of project?” Ava pressed. “Something that could change the industry—if it didn’t kill her first,” he replied cryptically. Before Ava could ask more, he vanished into the crowd, leaving her grappling with the implications of his words.
