The last day of October
A short poem for 'October' Challenge
Standing on the decor-covered, pumpkin-clad
Porch, you tug on your favourite warm slippers and reach
Out for the web-covered door. Just a moment of needed silence.
Outside, the party continues, and though the
Kids are ruining the peace of the early night,
You smile as they run through those fallen, decaying leaves.
Shouts come from the garden as the wind howls. You wrap up tight and
Everyone rushes inside, knocking over the punch bowl, like and
Avalanche of nylon and itchy fabrics. Children throw off their pointy hats and
Swarm the fireplace, their flushed faces relaxing in the warmth. The last day of
October draws in, and as you drag the heavy curtains to a close, the
Night seems to wink 'see you soon'.
