The Last Candle

I turned away and went to my bed

The Last Candle

The candle dripped its final flame,

Shadows swallowed the room in silence,

I touched the wick and felt

The cold kiss of everything gone.

A door closed where none existed,

The walls hummed with final breaths,

I stepped into the waiting dark,

And became the quiet I feared.

The ashes whispered names,

Old voices pressed against my ears,

The air was thick with endings,

And I could not speak.

A flicker returned,

Brief as memory,

It died in my hand,

And I fell with it.

The floor trembled beneath me,

The walls swallowed every sound,

I felt the world breathe its last,

And I joined it silently.

A shadow passed across my eyes,

The candle wept its final tear,

I closed my own,

And walked into the endless night.
