The Joyrider

He died for the thrill

The Joyrider

He came roaring down the lane

engine humming, eyes alive

chasing something I could not touch

not me, not love, just the wind

I reached for him once

my hands trembling, my heart open

but he only laughed

his world was speed, smoke, freedom

Nights he returned

tangled in dust and neon lights

I waited for warmth, for staying

he offered only the thrill

I let him go

not with hate, not with sorrow

just knowing some hearts

are built for roads, not for holding

I read about his death in the paper

the boy rider who chased the wind

who laughed at danger and speed

who never knew how to stay

He died for the thrill

not for love, not for me

just a flash of engine fire

a heartbeat lost in motion

I remember his eyes

alive with something I could not hold

now frozen in ink and sorrow

a story of wanting, and letting go

No anger, no tears

just the quiet knowing

some hearts burn too fast

and leave the rest of us behind
