The Intersection of 5th and 8th
last night

Enchanted evening on campus
after the hellscape morning drive
to my other campus, behind an 18
strolling down the third lane, backing up
traffic on I-85.
Back up 85
when my workday ended,
home to pack a bag,
remembered my toothbrush,
forgot my pajamas
Nancy’s were a chromey blue,
like a lake in the sun.
Andrew was divine, a treat for eyes, ears, and mind.
In certain light, I could see Kevin
from St. Elmo’s Fire, hear the character
in his voice.
The boys all smitten with Sarah,
one sitting next to her,
another one, a football player
told her she’s steak.
He’s not wrong.
The pub and the Guinness,
the stories, the food, the
amazing waitress.
The laughter.
The scorpion and the speculum,
and wet leather,
the intersection of lives,
connecting.
