The Icicle Angel

The Icicle Angel by M. K. Brackett December 6, 2024

Beneath the branches

Evergreen and glist’ning light

Amidst the baubles

Bright crystal, etched in white

Heirloom ornaments

Hung with great care

While children slumber

Innocent and unaware

‘Tween the needles hidden

An Angel of Ice

Awaits the coming morn

The call of sweets, scent of spice

Soft gasps as they awake

Pitter-pat to greet the tree

Though colored gifts

Evoke squeals of glee

Eyes search first amongst the limbs

Midst bauble, ‘tween bough

To be first to find

Our hidden Angel of Snow

For a treasured privilege

The Angel bestows

To the one who finds her

Above boxes and bows

‘Tis the privilege of serving

Like the Elves of the North

To gleefully rouse

All the rest to come forth

At last! She is found

Let the festivities begin!

Our youngest holds the Angel

Looking round with a grin

One by one, she sorts the gifts

Gently laying them before her kin

Bestowing upon each

The treasure within

As first becomes last

Finally taking her seat

Beneath the Icicle Angel

The celebration unfolds

Generation to Generation

Year upon year

The virtues we’ve learned

As our Angel spreads cheer

Appreciation

Charity

Compassion

Generosity

Gratitude

Hope

Humility

Kindness

Patience

Self-Control

And the greatest gift of all

Love.
