No road remains, no shadow falls,

the river hums beneath my name.

The dawn climbs slow along the walls,

and every spark returns the same.

The stars I chased now rest in me,

their silver threads entwined and near.

The hunter wakes, the hunted flees,

and both dissolve—the way grows clear.

The breath I keep is not my own,

the heart I bear is flame remade.

I am the hush the heavens hone,

the ember silence would not fade.

The light does not arrive or stay,

it moves through everything I am.

It burns the veil, it mends the clay,

it hums the old immortal psalm.

No hands to lift, no eyes to close,

no distance left to comprehend.

The hunted heart at last bestows

the peace that does not break or end.

And all I sought, and all I knew,

becomes the song, becomes the breath.

The hunt is over, love is true—

light is the life that conquers death.

About the Creator

Rebecca A Hyde Gonzales

I love to write. I have a deep love for words and language; a budding philologist (a late bloomer according to my father). I have been fascinated with the construction of sentences and how meaning is derived from the order of words.
