The House Without...

A house that I could tell you about.
The colour of the door. How it looked inside the kitchen.
The shape of the stairs coming up to your front door.
I could tell you about all of that.

Instead I’ll show you:

A shadow falling across the floorboards.
A picture frame.
A glass that hasn’t been touched since it was placed there.
A jacket hanging from a coat rack.

I’m sure you want me to go on.
Someone to put there.

There was someone.

It’s here that I leave you.

There are things about that home I could tell you about.
The yard before they took down the ivy.
That one song at the grocery store.

I’ll leave that out too.

Take a look at the map I’ve drawn for you.
This is your hallway.
This is your step up to the front door.
This is your coat rack.

I gave you everything about that home.

You took a look around.

Someone.
